Recipe for Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 cup room temp. butter
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon water
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
Of course I don't use bottled water for this recipe - but added it for picture effect. I use tap water.
Mix the room temperature butter until fully smooth. Add sugar and mix again.
Add eggs, water and vanilla and mix well.
Add flour and baking powder and mix well. The batter will be really creamy. Then I pull all the batter to the center of the bowl and put plastic wrap over the bowl and refrigerate until really cold and firm. I usually wait about an hour - the batter will be firm but not dry. (You can kinda see the plastic wrap covering the bowl... if you look really hard.
Take a hunk of the dough and mash together in a ball in my hands (without any additional flour) and flatten with hands. Then I put the batter on a flour covered surface. Roll out with rolling pin. My rolling pin was purchased from the Pampered chief (one of the many parties I've been too) and I absolutely love it!!
Cut out with a cookie cutter.
Bake in 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes. I take them out of the oven before they get brown on the edges and let them sit on the cookie sheet for about 5 minutes - they get firm after you wait for a couple of minutes. Then I move to a towel to completely cool.
These are the best sugar cookies. I always get compliments and people always ask for the recipe. You will love them! Frost them or eat them plain - both ways are good.
As a side note - if I have extra frosting left I always put it between graham crackers. Something my Mom did while I was growing up and I still love them. When I do this I always think about my Mom and being a kid. Mmmmmmm!
