Do not try this at home. Brady had to make up an assignment he missed in his Foods and Nutrition class at school. He had to make brownies from black beans. He searched the internet and found a recipe and proceeded to make yummy brownies.
Black beans, flour, sugar, oil, cocoa powder, eggs, vanilla, peppermint extract (I think was the death of this recipe), salt, baking powder, and chocolate chips. I am not going to share the recipe because they were awful - yuck.. Rinse the black beans really good... then he put them back in the can and added water to replace what he drained and cleaned off.
You blend everything together in the blender - no mixer used.
We only had big chocolate chips - no miniature chocolate chips to spread over the top. Brady just put them in our handy dandy chopper and chopped them up. It looked really good. Then he baked those dreadful brownies. Looked good, very moist, but YUCK... the peppermint extract was overwhelming and made the whole thing unbearable to eat. Plus, we could still taste the black beans in the recipe - which for brownies is just wrong.
We will not be making them again. Assignment complete.

OH YUCK! When I read your title, I said "WHAT?" He's a cute little cook though.
Have a great day!!

I have to agree with Sandra, those look awful! I have yet to try using beans for anything that supposed to be a dessert. They even had some at RS to try, but I didn't try it.
Ew...ew...ew! Bad idea.
Ok that does sound pretty awful!
If the teacher gave the black bean assignment I hope he is required to eat one - hee hee!
Good Job to Brady for completing the assignement and making them look good even if the taste was not good !!
Haha! I don't think many people would try them, but guess what. I have! (And I even posted the recipe.) But it doesn't sound like the same recipe since the one I made didn't have peppermint. I couldn't taste the beans in the ones we made, but I guess I didn't blend the beans enough because there were bean skins in the brownies and you had to pick them out of your mouth as you ate. Gross!
I was mean and gave a piece to my kids and didn't tell them what it was. They liked it, but noticed the bean skins. Alex even guessed the secret ingredients. Sorry it didn't work out for Brady!
I have heard of using black beans in brownies but never have. Did the black beans have chili spice in them? Now THAT would be yuck!
OK....i eat some really strange stuff...and love it...but this I have never tried. Nor do I care to try!
Since it was a Food and Nutrition class...i can suggest a better helthy alternative. Replace oil or butter with plain applesauce...stay away from black beans! ;)
