Godspell the Musical

Last night Jason, Sharon, Brady and I attended Meridian's High School musical performance of "Godspell".
It was fun to get together and attend the musical. I thought there would be more people attending but there wasn't. We made sure that we arrived by 6:30 to get a good seat. We were on the forth row front and center (great seats). It is a really small auditorium. I understand why they don't advertise much - because there isn't room for a huge crowd, which is such a shame!

When I was younger, our family always went to cultural events performed at the schools. (It helped that my sister was in them with her beautiful voice). It is an inexpensive way to introduce your children to culture. If they advertised it more, I know they would attract many people and families would love to give this experience to their children.

The cast was great! Very talented! I loved listening to them sing and have fun performing the skits. Godspell can be changed to fit each time period... I remember the fun things they did in the 70's when I first saw in to what they did now.

I think I like the 70's version with the clown make-up and silliness in clothing compared to the regular clothing in the play last night and NO clown make up. You could tell they actors were having a ton of fun and so did I.

If you are not familiar with Godspell - this is a short synopsis:

Godspell has the structure of a series of parables, taken primarily from the Gospel of Matthew. these are then interspersed with a variety of modern music set primarily to lyrics from traditional hymns. It started as a college project performed by students at Carnegie Mellon University and moved to La Mama in Greenwich village. It was then re-scored for an off-Broadway production that was a long-running success, but most people are familiar with the film version or have seen a local high school production of the musical.

This is not a show designed to convert people to any religious viewpoint. It's a show that uses the timeless story of the gospel to teach us all something important. Sometimes, in this scary world, we can forget how precious our planet and all of its citizens really are. I hope this show reminds you, of the joy of living a life where we love others with no regard for ourselves. Life really is beautiful.

I enjoyed the evening! I have been singing the music all day long - around and around in my brain. I used to LOVE this music and it has taken me back to my younger years.

I enjoyed sharing this with my children - I think they had fun too! Thanks Meridian High School for a wonderful performance!
