Silverwood Cross Country Meet

Friday September 10th, Brady left on a cross country meet to Silverwood amusement park located by Coeur D'alene Idaho. The Cross Country Team ran the big race there. There were 30 other schools who competed -it's big.

They left bright and early at 6 am Friday morning - which meant they missed a day of school. They road a bus there. Not a school bus, but a nice Greyhound type of a bus. It takes 6 or 7 hours to travel there. Brady took movies to watch. The bus has a TV and they watched Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief and The Incredible. I'm not sure what else they watched during this long, long ride. I know being high school kids, the ride was a blast!

Brady looks forward to this trip every year. When they arrive, they sleep in the High School mat room - with an electric line of coaches and parent chaperones in between the boys and the girls. No hotel rooms - just sleeping in the school.

I read from Cherie's blog that they filled garbage cans with ice and took ice baths then ran into the showers. Brady didn't tell me any of this. I said, "you took ice baths in garbage cans?".....gross. He made sure I knew he showered after it. GROSS!

After Brady left Friday morning, I looked at the local news on line - like I always do in the morning. Here is the article that gave me some concern as I just sent my son to that location and 9/11 was the day of the meet.  Here is the article.

COEUR D'ALENE -- A tense day at a North Idaho High School. Three small explosives found near Coeur d'Alene High School prompted a lock-down. The crudely made devices, about the size of a baseball, exploded Wednesday night The remnants were found Thursday. Investigators said the devices exploded at the football field sometime around 7:30 p.m.

Once the explosives were found, police began a precautionary sweep and recommended the school go into lock-down. Police started searching the halls and outside the school for any additional explosives.

Some students thought the lock-down was just a drill."Because it's the beginning of the year and we always have to have our fire and lock-down drills so we know what to do. So I was just thinking I was going to sit tight for ten minutes," said one student.

The lock-down lasted for an hour and fifteen minutes. Police said the three explosive devices consisted of rolls of gun tape with a firework wrapped inside.

"It was down at the football field but obviously we have people coming in from P.E., down at the football field, down at the parking lot. Could be coming in for a class so you have got a lot of movement on campus all day long. The bottom line is we just wanted to make sure everyone was safe," said one investigator.

Police took the three explosives, finished their search, and the school day went back to normal. Police do not have a suspect at this time.

I wasn't quite sure if the race was at the Coeur D'alene High School or somewhere else. Especially since some of the bombs were found on the football field - where a race would be located around. I did some extra praying for his safety and the safe return of our team. I am a worrisome mom, sending my son with his team where I have no control over his safety. I knew the coaches wouldn't put the children in harms way - but there are lots of wackos out there and I just need to pray. :-D

It turns out that the race wasn't at the school, but by Silverwood an amusement park in North Idaho. However, they did sleep at the school.

After the race they ride roller coasters for the rest of the day. They have lots and lots of fun.

They take pictures on the roller coaster. This is the first one Brady took. He didn't like his pose. He was flashing his high school ring. Cody is leaning into him - all scared. Lela is the first girl with the white stripes on her jacket. This is the girl Brady has a crush on. I don't know the name of the other girl.
Since Brady wasn't happy with the picture, they did it again. Now look... what is up with the kissy lips and girl?? B-R-A-D-Y!!!! *wink. He is tooooo funny.
They had a great time.

Brady called me after his race and told me he ran a great race at 19.12 minutes. He was bouncing off the walls with excitement. He was going to verify the time and call me back.

It seemed that Coach Liz took down the wrong time. He actually ran 20.12 which is still a great time. He is just really working hard to get under 20 minutes. I'm real proud of him. He's doing great!

They left Saturday around midnight to travel back home. They arrived at 5:30 am Sunday morning. Of course Brady slept most of the day. He was plain worn out from all the fun they had.
