Primary 4 Lesson 5

Primary 4 Manual
Lesson 5
Lehi and His Family Are Lead Through The Wilderness

Lesson Activities from the Friend:

Lehi
1. Lehi obeyed God’s commandment to take his family into the wilderness. One morning, the Lord provided a ball of curious workmanship, which Lehi found at the door of his tent. (See 1 Ne. 2:21 Ne. 16:10.)
Liahona
2. Within the ball were two spindles that pointed the way they should go. Obedient, they folded up their tents and traveled for many days, following the directions on the ball. (See 1 Ne. 16:12, 16.)
Nephi broke his bow
3. One day as Nephi went to hunt for food, his bow broke. Without his bow, he was unable to get any food for the family. Hungry and unhappy, his brothers and even his father complained. (See 1 Ne. 16:18, 20.)
He made a new bow
4. Nephi made a new bow of wood. Then he asked his father where to look for food. Lehi prayed about it, and the Lord told him to look at the ball. (See 1 Ne. 16:23, 25–26.)
Liahona taught Nephi where to find food
5. The pointers in the ball worked when Lehi and his family were faithful, diligent, and obedient. Writing on the ball taught them about the ways of the Lord. Nephi now followed its directions and found food for the family. (See 1 Ne. 16:28–31.)
Nephi built a ship
6. They came to the seashore, and the Lord commanded Nephi to build a ship. When it was completed, the family packed up their things and went out onto the ocean. (See 1 Ne. 17:6, 81 Ne. 18:4–6, 8.)
Laman and Lemuel complain
7. Laman and Lemuel began to complain again. When they tied Nephi up, the ball stopped working. A huge storm blew, and the boat was driven back on the water. (See 1 Ne. 18:11–14.)
They tie up Nephi
8. Nephi continued to pray to the Lord. When Laman and Lemuel saw that they might drown, they untied their brother. The storm ended, and the compass worked again. They sailed many more days and finally reached the promised land. (See 1 Ne. 18:15–16, 21–23.)
The Liahona didn't work when the people didn't obey
9. The compass, or Liahona, worked when the people kept the Lord’s commandments. When they were unkind to one another, or complained, or did not pray, it did not guide them. (See Alma 37:38–41.)
We must keep the commandments
10. When we are baptized and confirmed members of the Church, we are given the gift of the Holy Ghost to guide us. But like the Liahona, the Holy Ghost will not do so unless we keep our part of the baptismal covenant. If we do, Heavenly Father has promised that the Holy Ghost will always be with us. (See 3 Ne. 18:7.)

Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Relief Society Lesson Jan 10, 2016

My ward Relief Society sends out an email with a summary of the lesson so that all the women who serve in other auxiliaries can know what the adult lesson for us was about. That way we can feel more united even though we serve in other callings and are not able to hear the lesson. I thought I'd share what our ward has shared:
President Howard W. Hunter is the prophet we will be studying this year.  He was only the prophet for 9 months and only spoke in General Conference one time as the Prophet. He invited members to do 2 things:

1.  I would invite all members of the Church to live with evermore attention to the life and example of the Lord Jesus Christ, especially the love and hope and compassion He displayed.  I pray that we might treat each other with more kindness, more courtesy, more humility, and patience and forgiveness.

2. I also invite members of the Church to establish the temple of the Lord as the great symbol of their membership.  I would hope that every adult member would e worthy of-- and carry-- a current temple recommend.  Let us be a temple-attending and a temple-loving people.

Our Lesson today was titled, "Jesus Christ--Our Only Way to Hope and Joy."
President Hunter taught that "Christ's way is not only the right way, it is the only way to hope and joy."  How much time do you spend thinking about the Savior?  We know we need to and should do this but how?  How do we have a Christ-centered home?  We put up pictures of Christ to remind us of Him and encourage gospel centered discussions, pray for help to become more Christlike, study our scriptures, "ponderize" ponder and memorize one scripture each week, teach about the Savior--(suggested one attribute a month), read conference talks--do our best each day!

We all have sudden storms in our life.  Watch the video "Calming the Tempest" on lds.org.  What hardships do we face daily and how has the Savior calmed the storms in your life?  We do the best we can to study, pray, read scriptures, read Ensign, watch BYU TV but must remember to forgive ourselves if we don't do all we think we should.  Sister Bates suggested choosing a word to focus on throughout the year instead of a long list of resolutions that may end up being overwhelming.  As sisters we have so many things in our lives it can seem like a tornado. We must do all we can to find the peace and joy and happiness that gospel can bring us.  We can embrace life joyfully and full of faith.  Study the scriptures regularly.  Obey the voice of the Prophet.  Pray fervently.  Do all you can to help others.  You will find great happiness in such a course.  Some glorious day all your worries will be turned to joys.

We ended by singing, "Jesus, the Very Thought of thee."  Ponder these words and think of our Savior!

 Alma 13: 28 But that ye would humble yourselves before the Lord, and call on his holy name, and watch and pray continually, that ye may not be tempted above that which ye can bear, and thus be led by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love and all long-suffering;

29 Having faith on the Lord; having a hope that ye shall receive eternal life; having the love of God always in your hearts, that ye may be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest.

Motivational To Seek Learning

April 2012 General Conference address

We see you courageously arising and shining forth with light in a world where great challenges accompany great opportunities. This may cause you to wonder, what does the future hold for me? I assure you that as you are a virtuous daughter of God, your future is bright!

In the 25th chapter of Matthew, the parable of the ten virgins teaches us that spiritual preparation is vital and must be achieved individually.

You will recall that all ten virgins were invited to escort the bridegroom into the wedding feast, but only the five wise virgins were prepared with oil in their lamps.

You may think it selfish that the five wise virgins did not share their oil, but it was impossible.

Spiritual preparation must be acquired individually, drop by drop, and cannot be shared.

The time is now for you to diligently apply yourselves to increasing your spiritual knowledge—drop by drop—through prayer, scripture study, and obedience. The time is now to pursue your education—drop by drop.

The Holy Ghost will guide you on your journey here in mortality, even when you feel you are in flat light, uncertain of what lies ahead. You need not fear. As you stay on the path that leads to eternal life, the Holy Ghost will guide you in your decisions and in your learning.

“Education … will open the doors of opportunity.”  As you follow the Lord’s admonition to “seek learning, even by study and also by faith,”  you gain not only knowledge from your study but added light as you learn by faith.

President Gordon B. Hinckley wisely counseled the youth of the Church: “The pattern of study you establish during your formal schooling will in large measure affect your lifelong thirst for knowledge.”

President Thomas S. Monson said: “Often the future is unknown; therefore, it behooves us to prepare for uncertainties. … I urge you to pursue your education and learn marketable skills so that, should such a situation arise, you are prepared to provide.”

Make a list of the things you want to learn; then “share your educational goals with your family, friends, and leaders so they can support and encourage you.”  This is the pattern of Personal Progress.

Primary 4 Lesson 2

Primary 4 Manual
Lesson 2
Nephi Follows His Father, The Prophet

Lesson Activity Ideas:

From The Webber's request to make the game larger, I split it in half so you could print out the game on two different sheets of paper and join together. That is the best solution I have for making it larger. I couldn't see your return email address on your blog or profile - or I would have emailed the file to you. I hope this helps.

Click on the picture to take it to it's own page and then copy and paste in a word document, re-size and print. I also make the margins .2 before I re-size.

I love this Prophets wheel even though it only goes to President Gordon B Hinckley. It's a great way for them to learn who the other Prophets were all the way back to Joseph Smith.

I cut it out and give it to the children put together like this:
