Meridian Idaho Temple Moves Forward!

FINALLY .....The Meridian Idaho Temple moves forward!

Wednesday Night, October 23, 2013 - In a 2-0 vote, and after 4 hours of  the public hearing, where people supported and not supporting the building of the LDS Temple spoke to ADA County commissioners.  Four out of five people who spoke supported the temple. The public hearing on the appeal brought out a big crowd!

Some of the concerns about building the temple in the appeal were worried about the increased traffic, impact on wildlife, how big the building is, how bright the lighting is and the over all impact on the rural landscape.

Many in favor spoke about the potentially increased property values and the fact that the large Mormon population has a need for a temple in the area. Church members and officials said they plan to work hard to be good neighbors to the community.

After the public hearing, Ada County commissioners voted to uphold the Planning and Zoning Commission’s approval of a Meridian Idaho Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In August, the Ada County Planning and Zoning Commission approved the three-story, 65,960-square-foot temple on Linder Road between Chinden Boulevard and the south channel of the Boise River. The temple will be nearly 70 feet tall, with architectural elements and a spire extending its height to 120 feet.

Project manager Kerry Nielson told the commission that the area is no longer rural in nature and is a  quickly becoming a developing area. Nielsen said that of the temple site's, there are nine surrounding neighbors, six support the project and two are neutral.

Dan Long (neighbor) said he wants the temple built. "I am a huge private property advocate as well as someone who believes in sacred spaces. There is a reality, and the reality is if this land doesn't have a temple on it, it is going to have something else on it." He then said. "I would rather look at a quiet, sacred space."

I can't wait for the ground breaking ceremony. It seems like it is taking forever since the temple was announced to begin building it. Hopefully it will start soon and I hope to have an opportunity to be there during the ground breaking ceremony and watching the building take shape. Then....celebrating with others in the dedication of a new temple and "House of the Lord". Yea!!

This seems like a very beautiful area and I noticed on the www.LDS.org website they had some video of the cornerstone ceremony. It looks wonderful.
